			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.whers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/helena-teede.jpg" alt="" title="helena-teede" width="121" height="120" class="speakerimg" />Professor Teede completed her medical degree in 1989, specialist training in 1997 and a PhD in 2001. As a Endocrinologist and researcher, Helena now holds a Professor of Women’s Health. Monash University is the Head of Diabetes at Southern Health and the Director of Research at the Jean Hailes Foundation. She currently leads a growing team of multidisciplinary researchers and clinicians and her interests focus on lifestyle related diseases including obesity, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and diabetes. Community roles include education, health promotion and translation of medical information through her role at the Jean Hailes Foundation. She is on the National Endocrine Society Council, Diabetes Australia Victoria Board and the International PCOS Society Council.</p>
<p>Helena is involved in government forums on women’s health, prevention of disease, obesity and health services provision in diabetes, briefing the Australian Dept of Health and Ageing, Members of Parliament and back-bench committees. She has had input into national women’s and men’s health policy.  She is on the NHMRC Health Care Committee and sub-committees including the National Evidence Translation Committee.<strong></strong></p>
<p>Helena has over 105 publications together with national and international clinical and research recognition. She has been awarded The Minister&#8217;s Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement 2009 &#8211; Victorian Public Healthcare Awards together with the NHMRC Achievement Award 2008 for outstanding research work across NHMRC’s grant and fellowship scheme.</p>

She returned to Brisbane in 1999 and is currently director of the Queensland Paediatric Immunology and Allergy Service based at RCH. She is also a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.</p>
<p>Special interests include food allergy, anaphylaxis, primary immune deficiency, allergic rhinitis and paediatric autoimmune disease. She has numerous publications in these areas. She be on a variety of state and national committees for anaphylaxis, immunoglobulin usage, primary immunodeficiency, and paediatric immunology and allergy and is on the council of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.whers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/owen-ung.jpg" alt="" title="owen-ung" width="121" height="120" class="speakerimg" />Owen is a breast and endocrine surgeon.  He is head of the Breast and Endocrine unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RWBH), Director for the Centre for Breast Health, Director of the Acute Surgery Unit and member of the academic department of surgery of the University of Queensland.  He is a visiting surgeon at BreastScreen, Wesley Private and St Andrews War Memorial Hospitals.</p>
<p>He is a committed clinician, researcher and teacher and lectures and publishes widely. He is a principle investigator for a number of major Australian and New Zealand clinical trials relating to the management of the axilla and regional nodes in breast cancer. He is a college examiner and member of the Queensland State Committee (RACS) and has an active role in teaching and training at all levels.</p>
<p>Owen has obtained extensive administrative and management experience through his various clinical leadership roles and is active on numerous State and National Committees.  Previous representations include: board member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA), Chair of the Breast Section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Chair of the Breast Group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.whers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/louise-newman.jpg" alt="" title="Louise Newman" width="121" height="120"  class="speakerimg"/>Louise Newman is the Professor of Developmental Psychiatry and Director of the Monash University Centre for Developmental Psychiatry &#038; Psychology.  Prior to this appointment she was the Chair of Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry at the University of Newcastle and the previous Director of the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry. </p>
<p>In January 2011 she was appointed as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia.</p>
<p>She is a practising infant psychiatrist with expertise in the area of disorders of early parenting and attachment difficulties in infants.  She has undertaken research into the issues confronting parents with histories of early trauma and neglect.  Her current research is focussing on the evaluation of infant-parent interventions in high-risk populations, the concept of parental reflective functioning in mothers with borderline personality disorder and the neurobiology of parenting disturbance.</p>
<p>She has published in the areas of infant mental health, attachment disorders trauma, and prevention of child abuse. She is co-author of the textbook Clinical Skills in Infant Mental Health and the forthcoming Contemporary Approaches in Child and Adolescent Mental health.</p>
<p>She is the Convenor of the Alliance of Health Professions for Asylum Seekers and an advocate for the rights of asylum seekers and refugees. She is the Chair of the Detention Expert Health Advisory Group an independent body providing advice to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on the heath needs of asylum seekers. She has been involved in research into the impact of immigration detention on child asylum seekers.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.whers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/sandy-mcfarlane.jpg" alt="" title="Alexander McFarlane" width="121" height="120" class="speakerimg" />Prof Alexander McFarlane AO is the Head of the University of Adelaide Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies.   He is an international expert in the field of psychological trauma and disasters and an active clinician. He is a Past President of both the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.    He has been the Senior Adviser in Psychiatry to the Australian Defence Force, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  He holds the rank of Group Captain in the RAAF specialist reserve.</p>
<p>His research has focused on the epidemiology and longitudinal course of posttraumatic stress disorder, as well as the neuroimaging of the cognitive deficits in this disorder.    He has a particular interest in the impact of childhood trauma on adult adjustment.  He has directed several major studies of on the health of members of the entire Australian Defence Force that are currently being completed.  He is the recipient of a number of honours and awards for his research and contribution to field.  He has had extensive experience as an expert witness in a range of jurisdictions in Australia and internationally.<br />
He has published over 300 articles and chapters in various refereed journals and has co-edited three books.</p>
