Susan CarrDr Susan Carr: Formerly Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health in Scotland. She took up post as Head of Psychosexual Service at the Royal Womens Hospital, Melbourne in 2009 and is a Member of the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine, UK.

Susan has contributed book chapters on sexuality, and sexuality and cancer and has extensive lecturing and teaching experience.

She is currently President of the Sexuality and Sexual Health section of the Royal Society of Medicine, London. UK.

Diane Summer

Dr Diane Summer has been a Sexual Relationship Therapist working with couples and individuals on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland since 1992. She was President Australian Society Sex Educators Researchers and Therapists.1998-2001 and is author of ‘The Voyage of Love & Sex’ She has also been engaged in education as Coordinator of HIV education programme for GP’s in Victoria and Qld and more recently as a tutor in clinical communication skills at UQ Medical School.

She has recently semi-retired and does the occasional locum back in her original field as a sexual health clinician and sees a few couples who wish to work in a short term retreat situation.

Terri ForanDr Terri Foran is a Sexual Health Physician and has a special interest in contraception, menopause issues and the management of sexually transmitted infections. She was, from 1998 until 2004, the Medical Director of Family Planning NSW and is now in private clinical practice in Darlinghurst.  She also works in the Menopause Centre and Research Units at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.

Dr Foran holds the position of Lecturer at the University of New South Wales in the School of Women’s and Children’s Health. She coordinates Phase 2 of their undergraduate medical program in women’s health as well as a number of modules in the Masters of Reproductive Medicine Course offered by UNSW.

Dr Foran is currently the monthly Women’s Health columnist for Australian Doctor Magazine, and contributed to an Australian book on Sexual and Reproductive Health issues initially published in 2005 and republished in 2010.

Annabelle Farnsworth

Annabelle FarnsworthDr. Annabelle Farnsworth is the medical director of Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology (DHM) and the director of the DHM Cytopathology Department the largest cytology department in Australia reporting on both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology specimens.  She is also the Adjunct Professor of Pathology at the Notre Dame School of Medicine in Sydney where she co-ordinates and runs the pathology program for this new medical school which commenced in 2007. DHM delivers the full pathology program to students in their first and second years.

 Dr. Farnsworth has an ongoing interest in cervical screening programs, quality assurance in cervical cytology and automation in cervical cytology.  She has been the chair of the quality assurance committee for the national cervical screening program and is currently the Australian Society of Cytology representative on the federal government review panel looking at quality standards in cervical cytology.  She has also published widely including investigations into automation in cervical cytology.

Michael Carr-Gregg

Michael Carr-GreggMichael is one of Australia’s highest profile psychologists. He works in private practice in Melbourne.  He is a columnist for Girlfriend Magazine and Australian Doctor. He specialises in the area of parenting adolescents and adolescent mental health. Michael has been the Consultant Psychologist to the Victorian Secondary Schools Principal’s Association, Australian Boarding Staff Association, Australian Ballet School, St Catherine’s School, and Melbourne Girls’ College. In 2003 he was one of the founding members of the National Coalition Against Bullying and became one of their national spokespersons. He also served on the advisory committee for the Federal Government’s Boys’ Education Lighthouse School Programme.

Michael was educated in Kenya, England, New Zealand and Australia. In 1985, he founded the world’s first national teenage cancer patients support group, CanTeen – The Australian Teenage Cancer Patient’s Society. Michael has worked in private practice as a family therapist, child psychologist and clinical psychologist, as an academic, researcher and he spent 4 years working as a political lobbyist.

He has held a variety of appointments including Executive Director of the New Zealand Drug Foundation and Director of the Centre for Social Health at the University of Melbourne and Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne. Michael has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Australian Jaycees Outstanding Young Australian of the Year (1987) and in 1997; he was made a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International in recognition of his work in the prevention of youth suicide.

Michael has extensive experience in the media and is currently a regular on Neil Mitchell’s morning program on radio 3AW. In 2002 Michael was asked to be the official psychologist to Girlfriend Magazine, the best selling magazine for young women in Australia. In 2005 he was asked to be a columnist for the new boy’s magazine Explode. Michael is also regular contributor to a variety of magazines including Australian Doctor and the Herald Sun – Australia’s biggest selling newspaper.

Most importantly, Michael is married and has two children, supports Hawthorn in the AFL and South Sydney in the NRL. In 2000, he was the subject of a This Is Your Life program on Channel 9. He is in constant demand across Australia as a facilitator of hypotheticals, speaker, entertainer and educator.

Raymond Seidler

He is a specialist in addiction medicine with interest in travel medicine, mental health, aged care and men’s health. It is the Cross’ extraordinary tapestry of patients which provides him with grist for his informative and entertaining presentations. Raymond is frequently door-stopped by the media for his views on topical medical issues and stores and he writes a regular Opinion column for Medical Observer.

Raymond teaches medical students from The University of Sydney and The University of NSW, and GP registrars from GP Synergy. He is first-call panel member for the Doctors’s Health Advisory Service, NSW, a peer reviewer for the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission and Medical Director of Eastern Sydney Division of General Practice.

tony-attwoodTony is a clinical psychologist who has specialised in autism spectrum disorders since he qualified as a clinical psychologist in England in 1975.  He works in private practice in Brisbane, but is also adjunct professor at Griffith University, Queensland.  His book Asperger’s Syndrome – A Guide for Parents and Professionals has sold over 300,000 copies and has been translated into twenty languages.  He has worked with over 3,000 individuals of all ages with Asperger’s syndrome.  Tony presents workshops and runs training courses for parents, professionals and individuals with Asperger’s syndrome all over the world and is a prolific author of scientific papers and books on the subject.  His new book The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome was published in October 2006.

Ian Caterson

Ian Caterson is currently Foundation Director of the Boden Institute of Obesity Nutrition & Exercise and Boden Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney. He has held the latter position since 1997.  He was also head of the School of Molecular & Microbial Biosciences at the University. Prior to that he was Senior Staff Specialist and Director of Clinical Endocrinology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He graduated in Medicine with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney and holds the degrees of BSc(Med) with First Class Honours and Doctor of Philosophy from that University.

 He worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Oxford with Prof Sir Philip Randle FRS and held an NH&MRC Applied Health Science Fellowship.

His research interests have been in insulin resistance and the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity. He has over 220 publications in scientific journals and books.

He is a past president of both the Australian Diabetes Society and the Australasian Society for the Study of Obesity & was regional vice-president (Asia-Oceania) for the International Association for the Study of Obesity.

He is a recognised expert on obesity, the Metabolic Syndrome and insulin resistance. He was a member of the NH&MRC working party on the prevention of overweight and obesity and chaired the National Obesity Prevention Group for the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.  He is on the management committee of the International Obesity Task Force and has been a regional advisor on Obesity for WHO. He is an advisor to the Australian Government on diabetes.

Dr Vivienne Milch is Clinical Leader at National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre (NBOCC). She is involved in developing educational resources for GPs and nurses about breast and ovarian cancer, as well as planning and coordinating projects to improve the outcomes of women with breast and ovarian cancer.

 

Prior to commencing at NBOCC in 2008, Vivienne worked as a GP for 12 years, and then in clinical trials research at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, investigating new treatments for osteoporosis and breast cancer prevention.

Dr Thompson is National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre’s Senior Clinical Advisor. She is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of national programs supporting and educating health professionals working in primary care, including general practitioners. Julie has 25 years experience working as a GP in both rural and urban practice and continues to work half time in general practice.

Current appointments: member of Cancer Australia Advisory Council, board member General Practice Divisions- Victoria, member NSW Cancer Institute general practice advisory group, member Victorian Ministerial Advisory Committee on Surgical Services.
