Great advances happening in Plastic Surgery during my life in the specialty; the development of shaped breast implants and free TRAM flaps have allowed substantial improvements in breast reconstruction and we now have a broad range of choice.
Botox and fillers have totally changed the face of aesthetic surgery and the demand for aesthetic surgery has never been higher from all income areas.
I think the greatest advances are related to the understanding of vascular supply and venous drainage and the application of this in both microsurgery and flap reconstructive surgery.
Great moments in my lifetime; Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, Eddie Marbo winning a landmark decision in the High Court of Australia that overturned the fallacious concept of terra nullius (1992). Sorry Day when the Australian Government finally acknowledged the damage done to the stolen generation (2008).
