A/Professor Owen Ung

Owen UngOwen Ung is a breast and endocrine surgeon. After graduating from Queensland University, he worked in rural and metropolitan hospitals throughout the state then completed his advanced surgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. From there he undertook a fellowship at Westmead Hospital in New South Wales, then at the University Of Wales College Of Medicine in the United Kingdom as a lecturer in surgery. From 1995 to 2008 he has was a consultant surgeon at Westmead, a major Sydney teaching hospital, where he headed the Breast and Endocrine surgical unit and was Director of the department of general surgery.

Helena Teede

Professor Helena Teede is an Endocrinologist with a strong interest in Women’s Health. Her research has been recognised both locally and internationally and has resulted in over 60 publications.

Her special interests are in the continuum of risk from obesity, polycystic ovarian syndrome, & prediabetes to cardiovascular disease. 

She also has a strong interest in translation of research through education and implementation of evidence into practice. 

Helena is the Director of Research at the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health, Head of Diabetes at Southern Health and is a Professor of Women’s Health at Monash University.

Jim Nicklin

Jim NicklinDr Nicklin is a graduate of the University of Queensland. He did his internship and residency at the Royal Brisbane and Royal Women’s Hospitals. He subsequently went on to do specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Queensland. He then did his sub-specialty training in gynaecologic oncology at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney and the Ohio State University, USA. He returned to Queensland and set up practice as a gynaecologic oncologist in late 1995. He is currently a VMO and Director of Gynaecologic Oncology at RBWH, Qld and conducts his private practice based at the Wesley Hospital, Brisbane.

She has been an Honorary Lecturer, University of Newcastle since 1997. In addition Diane has played a leading role in the Primary Care Trust; is a Deanery Advisor, Contraception and Sexual Health, and chair of the Society of Consultants and Lead Clinicians in Reproductive Health, UK.

In October 2006, the Australian Financial Review included Professor Hickie (AM, MD, FRANZCP, FASSA) in its list of the top 10 cultural influences. The specific comments noted his role as a “long-term campaigner”, “the person who orchestrated the campaign” that led to the COAG announcements ($4 billion dollars over five years. In October 2000 he was appointed as the inaugural CEO of beyondblue: the national depression initiative and from 2003-06 served as its Clinical Advisor. In 2003, he was appointed as the inaugural executive director of the flagship Brain and Mind Research Institute at the University of Sydney.

Michael GattasDr Michael Gattas (MB BS, FRACP) is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist with the Genetics Health Queensland, and works in private practice as a Clinical Geneticist. He has been responsible in Genetic Health Qld for much of the advice given to patients referred because of their family history of cancer. In addition to clinical consultation he is a Consultant in Clinical Genetics with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology.

Elizabeth ElliotElizabeth Elliott is Professor in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney and Consultant Paediatrician at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney. She is Founder and Director of the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit, a national research group with a focus on rare diseases of childhood. She is also Director of the Centre for Evidence Based Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition in Sydney and currently holds an NH&MRC Practitioner Fellowship.

Fran BoyleFran Boyle (AM MBBS (QLD) FRACP PhD) is a Medical Oncologist at North Sydney’s Mater Hospital, where she is Director of the Patricia Ritchie Centre for Cancer Care and Research, and Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Sydney. She was honoured with Membership of the Order of Australia in 2008 for services to breast cancer research, advocacy, policy development and education. As Medical Director of the Pam McLean Cancer Communications Centre at the University of Sydney, she has been engaged in research and training to improve communication between health professionals and patients, and coaches cancer teams across Australia and New Zealand.
