Paul Glasziou

Paul Glasziou PhD, FRACGP is Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Practice and Reader in Primary Care at the University of Oxford and a part-time general practitioner. He teaches evidence-based practice to medical students and other health care workers, is the editor of the BMJ’s Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine, and chair of the NHMRC Preventive Guidelines Working Group. He has published two books: “Decision Making in Health Care: Integrating Evidence and Values” and “Systematic Reviews in Health Care”.

Paul’s research and teaching interests are in improving the accessibility and use of research evidence in medical decision making, and include evidence-based medicine, single-patient trials, screening, and methods to assess the generalisability of clinical trials and systematic reviews. He is involved in the management of several of Australia’s largest clinical trials (LIPID, FIELD, and ADVANCE). He has applied his skills to such topics as breast and colorectal cancer screening, acute and serous otitis media, cholesterol lowering, and anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation.
